Rip-Off Report hides behind Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act

S230 of the CDA was created for a reason...to protect ALL of us from people who post defamatory comments on our blogs or websites. So, ROR doesn't "hide" behind it anymore than you do. It is unfortunate that people say the nasty things they say at any variety of sites, but to say that ROR is the problem is blaming the messenger, not the author.

I agree that it is vital to protect free speech online but there is something wrong when a site like Rip Off Report completely dominates the search results for a particular company even if that company only has 1 bad review and is obviously not a chronic offender. Why is Rip Off Report so powerful? I don't have an issue with consumers being able to freely rate and review businesses but something about Rip Off Report stinks! Maybe what bothers me so much is that ROR also offers a "corporate advocacy" program where businesses pay ROR to clean up their reputation. Musick Loss Management has 0 complaints with the Better Business Bureau. They are a small company with fewer than 50 employees and all customer complaints go directly to the owner Mark. Mark began his career as a tradesman and through hard work and dedication was able to create a very successful Public Adjustment Firm. MLM has a dynamic website where they post articles and videos frequently. Why does ROR come up as the #1 Google search result for Musick Loss Management. If ROR's mission is to protect and provide consumers with information to make a more informed decision, they are failing! When potential clients pass on MLM because they see the horrible ROR review before they even get to all of the other information and consumer reviews about the company, the consumer is losing out! If ROR's purpose is to scare companies into joining it's own "corporate advocacy" program, I suspect they are highly successful!

Free Speech = Good

Allowing sites like ROR to dominate searches for a small company like Musick Loss Management, despite evidence that overall the company is operating in an ethical manner = Very Bad!
